In the 1990's and 2000's, I was busy adding bodywork certifications, choreographing movement performances, and writing poetry, as well as painting, so I did not seek formal post-graduate art training. I was however, fortunate to study informally with two painters; David Olander, (representational) and Eliezer Parrilla, (abstract) painters in Manhattan and in West Hurley, NY, 1990's and 2000's respectively. I began on canvas, following my teachers, then because of typical New York City rent stabilized apartment space limitations, I added making works on multi-media paper using acrylic, charcoal, pastel, watercolor, and oil stick.
I had a solo show at the East Village restaurant, Sister Jane's in 2018 from June to October. I had a show of my latest works on canvas at Think Coffee, 1 Bleecker St. July 4, 2022-Sept. 1, 2023. Also, I had two pieces up at a neighborhood vegan Szechuan restaurant, Spicy Moon from 2019-2021. Art and food go well together!
The conversation is with the unconscious -- cleaning out an infinite closet. My extensive movement explorations and healing my spine for 44 years finds its way in some of my work. Drawing what my scoliosis felt like, and studies of the bones, helped me to embody and heal my anatomy, as seen in the Anatomical and Body gallery.
